Our connections keep expanding and increasing, making this blog a logical progression, so that we can all share our family history and find the missing links between KADETSKIES, as we all seem to have originated in the same place (Biezun, Poland)and so are related at some point or another.

The Authors of this blog are all descendents of Kadetskies and each contributes the information gathered while researching the history of the KADETSKY family.  At the time of the creation of this blog we have identified several main branches of the surname:  one remained in Poland and we will work on that to see how we all interconnect.  Another one entered the US in 1871 and branched into diffferent areas including New York and Boston.  Then another branch entered the US in 1879 and after spending a few years in NY, settled in Boston.  Another one moved to Israel.  And then there are the ones that changed the name to Kadet, Kay, Cadetz, etc., and that need to be connected to their respective ancestors. 

Gary Lelonek will upload the information he has gathered and connect us to Israeli Kadetskies.  He is descended from Pessia Kadetsky of Biezun, Poland.

Mark Hallerman is descended from Rachel Kadetsky of Biezun, Poland, who was Pessia's sister.

Steve Morris and Jenni Hymoff share a common great-great-grandfather - R'Yitchak Yehoshua - of whom we as yet know nothing more than his name and two of his children, Abraham Joseph (Steve's great-grandfather) and Hadel Esther /Adeline (Jenni's great-grandmother) and that they came to the US in 1879 from Poland.

As we add authors and contributions we will explain who is related to who. 

Please feel free to contribute, either as author or by sending the authors things so we can upload them.   This blog will be as accurate and interactive as we all can make it.

Letter to all Relatives

Dear All,
We (Gary Lelonek, Mark Hallerman and Jenni Hymoff) have slowly been uploading a lot of the genealogical information we've been gathering in the last 10 years, to this KADETSKY family blog.

There is a lot more to be added and we am slowly working on it when we get some spare time (not easy for us, but anyway!) and we will welcome anything you wish to add. Pictures, trees, family anecdotes: all are welcome.  There is a specific address on the blog that you can use, Kadetskyfamilyhistory@gmail.com. or our personal e-mail addresses.

Several comments to you all:
We will not publish names of living persons without their express consent, nor pictures that are less than 25 years old, IF there are living people on it (this is accepted genealogical practice), without the express consent of the people pictured. This means YOU!!! If you do not give us (Gary or myself) your consent, your entry (and that of your children and grandchildren unless they separately authorise us to) will give only birth year and gender: in other words: "female, born 1958" (see attached examples). If you want us to state anything different, please feel free to tell us! No geographical information will be given for living persons either, nor will anything like Social Security numbers, addresses, phone numbers or any other contact info for anyone but us EVER, unless you expressly authorise us to publish yours.

We would also greatly appreciate your feedback on the site: all comments are welcome, especially if you correct wrong information. This blog is for all of us, to collect the information for all, in one place and after a few weeks awaiting your collective and individual replies, We will adapt the family trees and upload it with names and birth dates appropriately deleted where need be. Spouses' names will not be included without authorisation unless both are deceased. Anything uploaded can be downloaded, so if you wish something to be changed, let us know. Reasonable requests will be honoured. And if you are not on it yet, you will be as soon as we get to your branch!   We'd also love to hear from anyone not previously contacted, to fill in gaps and get to know you!
Any family member requesting it will be able to get via e-mail or post, the "real" tree (complete with who is who) and copies of pictures or documents. I'm very slow at answering postal requests, but will eventually get to you!  Gary is much better at it, but please be patient as we are both employed and this is a hobby..... 
You may refer others (preferably family) to this site but we will only be sharing it amongst us, the family (extended, but only if that person is mentioned on it, we've not gone as far as to add cousins of cousins). We can eventually set up a password to access it, if you want, but the general idea is for it to be accessible to all so that we can gather the most infomation and relatives.   You are also welcome to copy pictures or trees for your personal use, or we can send better resolution ones via e-mail.

Why I got into genealogy

Both of my parents kept me well informed on their family history, my mother made up a photo album of family pics for each of her children and we have copied our albums for each other (back then one couldn't scan or copy photos easily). Once I got seriously interested in genealogy I began scanning and e-mailing pictures around and getting other pictures from relatives and compiled quite a few different albums for the different lines. I'll be putting all that stuff on here as I get around to it.

But I want to start with my favourites: My father gave me a box of ancient photographs, but didn't really know who all those people were. One picture always haunted me. I wanted to know who they were and what their names were. Since my great-grandmother Tobei REDLER KRAVETSKY is a family legend (although nobody has been able to tell me exactly why...but almost all her grandchildren have a child named after her, as I also am) and there are good pictures of her and since the woman in my mystery picture is so obviously related to her, I took a good guess that those were her parents. It took five years and a cousin's visit to Odessa to finally find out the names of these two people with the sad eyes: my paternal great great grandparents,

Berko and Iosya REDLER from Kherson Gubernia in the Ukraine.

The other reason I got involved in all this is because my father always told me that I was the last of our name: that his grandfather was an orphan, his father an only son as he was, and so I was the last of the HYMOFFs, except for some relative of that name in Paris, whose connection my father did not know and who we have not been able to find yet.

Since my father was a professional historian, I assumed he had all the facts and that was that. One day I googled him, expecting to only find lots of entries for him and his work. Well , I was right about that, there were over 14.000. Five of me. And, surprise: lots of other Hymoffs!

That of course was a total shock and I began to try to find out who those other Hymoffs were! Since my great grandfather was widowered early, it could have been that he married again and had a new family, but someone would have told me about that, I hope. Or a family feud split up some brothers who never spoke to each other again... and maybe I had lots of cousins I had never met....

Fate would have it that it has been easier to trace those other Hymoffs than it has been to trace mine. So far I have been able to establish that we are not related in the 5 generations since they all emigrated to the US. My ggf Israel Hymoff claimed to be from Lublin, Poland - whereas the other Hymoffs are respectively from Minsk, Belarus; Iasi, Romania and Volhynia Oblast, Lutsk. Technically speaking, they are geographically close enough for some family connection to be possible. But we're working on finding out if that is so.

Israel Hymoff arrived in the USA in June of 1889, as he claims on his "First Papers" for US Citizenship. The other Hymoff families arrived after 1906. I've been in touch with several members of each one of those families (genealogy is great for making new friends) and we have exchanged a lot of information (and jokes).

 

Then there are alterative spellings - that is a whole other matter...

I've also had a lot of help from more experienced genealogists and would like to once again thank you all for teaching me, sharing your experience with me, getting me over rough spots, giving me tips to get information faster, translating documents from Polish and Russian and gravestones in Hebrew for me and bearing with me in this exasperating, but extremely rewarding, hobby!

Israel Hymoff married Adeline (Hadel Esther) Kadetsky Waters around 1890 (civil ceremony in 1903) which links in the Kadetskies - a large tribe that have been very helpful in providing information, although we still have not managed to link "My" Kadetskies to Gary and Mark's.
