Shades of Gray (Grakowitz)

Hey this is interesting stuff. So I was thinking about this Helen/Chaya Gray who is Abram Kadecki's daughter, Israel Moshe Kadecki's granddaughter. A couple of yrs ago I ordered some records from the Sierpc PSA through JRI and I received a marriage record for a Chaia Kadecki to Gersz Grabkowitz. Maybe they Americanized Grabkowitz to Gray. Right? I was interested in this record before because Chaskel Kadecki, Shaya Aziel Kadecki's son (my ggm's brother) married Gersz Grabkowitz's sister. Chaskel and his family were killed in the Holocaust.

Anyway, so I checked the translation for the marriage certificate and Chaya's father's name is Abram Icek Kadecki. Then I checked the Ellis Island database to see if the Grabkowitz family came to America. Sure enough Hersz Grabkowitz came to America and stayed by his Uncle (in-law) Sussman Kadetsky, at 709 Columbus ave in Manhattan. A yr later Chaya Grabkowitz and her 2 daughters left her father Abram Kadecki in Sierpc and joined her husband Hersz Grabkowitz in Buffalo, NY. Finally in Mandel Kadet's Chicago tribune obit it lists Helen Gray as his sister. Also when Aaron Kadet came to America he left his father Abram Kadet and joined his sister, Chaya Gray! Tada..meet the the Grays! Cool!

Rachel Bloom nee Friedberg mystery continues....

Rachel Bloom has shown up in a number of Kadetsky records. From her son's birth records we see that her maiden name was Rachael Friedberg. Necca Karniszyn, who married Abram Kadetsky b.1860, her mother was Chai Frajdenberg. I am unsure if this is the relationship or if Harry Bloom was somehow related to the Kadetskys?

So here is the info I have on the Blooms from Newark:

1880 US census, Rachel Bloom (25) was married to Harry Bloom (26) and lived in Newark, NJ at 139 Broad, St. Harry was listed as a peddler and they were both from Poland.

1895 NJ census, Rachel Bloom was married to Harry and had 3 children Manuel, Joseph and David.

From the New Jersey Deaths and Burials on familysearch.com comes the following info about the Newark Blooms:
Harry Bloom died on February 6, 1897 at the age of 43 in Newark, NJ. He worked in a Millinery store.
