Sarah Wolfe Death Record records her parents Jacob Reditzky and Hannah Kalma

Sarah Wolfe, the wife of Solomon Wolfe, died Jan 2, 1920. The transcription of her death record indicates that Jacob Reditzky (K and R in script look very similar) and Hannah Kalma. She was buried in Mt Zion Cemetery. You can see her headstone here.

Breina Kadecky connects Wolfe Family to Kadetskys from Sierpc!

Breina Kadecky arrived at Ellis Island from Sierpc on June 4, 1900. (Line 27 on the manifest below.) She went to her brother-in-law's house, illegible first name, last name Wolf 246 Second Street, in NY. She was 21 at the time. See line 10 of the Kadetsky Family Ellis Island excel file. (Sarah Kadetzky Wolfe fits line 5 on the Kadetsky Manifest list, also of Sierpc. I have designated that line of Kadetsky as F on the excel spreadsheet.)

Four days later....

The 1900 US Census (bottom of the first page and the top of the next census record) records that Solomon (born 1/1865) and Sarah (born 6/1869) had immigrated in 1888 and were married for 12 years. they lived at 246 Second Street. Solomon was a window cleaner. Sarah had given birth to 5 children, who were all living; Rachel (10/1889), Isadore (7/1891), Alexander (10/1894), Martha (10/1896), and Abraham (11/1899). Interestingly they had a boarder, Bertha Kadetzky (11/1879), who had immigrated in 1900. The census was taken on June 8, 1900, so she had just arrived. In four days her name was Americanized from Breina to Bertha!

Kadetsky-Wolfe family in the 1910 US Census gets interesting....

I found the Wolfe family in the 1910 US Census and there were a few Kadetsky surprises. Here are the people living in their household in 1910;
Solomon Wolfe Head M 55 Russia
Sarah Wolfe Wife F 45 Russia
Rae Wolfe Daughter F 20 New York
Isadore Wolfe Son M 18 New York
Alexander Wolfe Son M 15 New York
Martha Wolfe Daughter F 13 New York
Abraham Wolfe Son M 10 New York
Rose L Wolfe Daughter F 8 New York
Benjamin Wolfe Son M 5 New York

Solomon was a street sweeper. They immigrated in 1888. (Which would mean that this is not the Solomon Wolf who witnessed Sussman Kadetsky's naturalization in 1882.) Sarah and Solomon were married for 22 years. Sarah had delivered 8 children, 7 of whom were living. Bertha was born in 1905 and is not on this census. It is possible that Rose L. is Lily for whom there is a birth record.

Here's the surprise. Living with them at the time was Abraham Kaletzky a 38 yo (1872) widower and his 16 yo (1894) son Isaac. Abraham was a tailor. Abraham's immigration year is documented as 1899 and Isaac arrived in 1901.

Who is Sarah Kadetsky Wolf born about 1874?

I found the following records for Sarah Kadetsky Wolf born about 1874. I have never heard of her or a Wolf family. She appears to have been born around 1874. She was married to Solomon Wolf and had the following children; Rose, Lily, Benjamin, and Bertha. Rose’s marriage doc has her parents as Sadie Kadetsky and Solomon Wolfe. Benjamin is buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Interestingly a Solomon Wolf was a witness for Sussman Kadetsky’s naturalization on 10/21/1882.

Marriage Record for my 4th great grandparents in 1814!!!! Used the patronymic last name Szlamowicz instead of Kadecki!

Thank you, Ivy Dennett Thorpe, for sharing with me the records that she had requested during her research which actually belonged to my family! The Kadecki part of my family moved from Biezun to Sierpc, Poland. The records she shared were from Biezun, Poland. I am so excited to have the marriage document of my 4G grandparents from March 21, 1814. The family was using patronymic names and adopted the surname Kadecki between 1814 and 1834 when their daughter married. Next month is their 203 wedding anniversary!

I never searched JRI Poland for patronymic surnames since I did not know when the surname Kadecki was adopted. This type of find only came about through the collaboration of fellow genealogists, JewishGen Family Finder, JRI Poland, Viewmate, and a Facebook group that I started, Sierpc Jewish Community- Descendants of the Jewish Community of Sierpc, Poland.

The following is the extracted info from the marriage record for my 4g grandparents, Abram Szlamowicz (is recorded as Kadecki on his children's documents) and Nicha Ezryelow. They had the following children Ester Ryka b. 1817 (recorded as Kadecki on her marriage registration), Pefsa b. 1819 (recorded as Kadecki on her marriage registration), Eliasz b. 1825, and Szmul b. 1833. Eliasz is my ggg gf who married Gita Laja Lacinski. They had Shaya Aziel (my gg gf), Jacob who died in Boston in 1906, Abram who died in Boston in 1944), Hersz Leib, Sara Bajla Waksman, and Nycha). Interestingly they had not yet adopted the surname Kadecki. You can see the document on the JewishGen Viewmate service that allows people to post records to be translated by volunteers. http://www2.jewishgen.org/ViewMate/responselist.asp?key=53274

Biezun, 1814 March 21

(Then it's a matter of a record from the notary MAGEWSKI, commissioned to the Mlawa civil registry, addressed to her father Azryel, master of tailor's craftsmanship; This document concerns banns occurred in the municipality house, March 13 and 20, current year

At the end, the bride is designated as Nicha Ezryelow Eliaszowiczowa

New info extracted from Adeline Kadetsky's marriage to Joseph Wasserzug marriage certficate!

My friend and relative through marriage, Judith Caplan, looked at Adeline Kadetsky's marriage certificate at the NYC archives. Here is what she extracted. She is a Jewish genealogy expert. The information is very confusing. Her mother and Joseph's mother had the same last name or same father's first name. Who are the witnesses H. Goldstain and Harris Wolff?

Hi, Gary,

I was at the NYC Municipal Archives yesterday, and I retrieved, examined, and transcribed the Wasserzug record you were interested in from Reel #165 containing 1884 Manhattan Marriage Records 40001-41000. This is the data I saw:

I don't know if this was the style back then, but on the Certificate side I saw:

Mr. Joseph Wasserzug and Mrs. Adeline Wasserzug joined in Marriage Sat, Dec. 7, 1884

On the data "Return of Marriage" side:

Joseph Wasserzug
180 (or 80?) Henry St
39 (age next birthday)
Peddler
born: Russ-Poland
Father: Davis Wasserzug
Mother: Rosie Josephs
2nd marriage
married: Sun, Dec. 7,1884

Adeline Wasserzug
(maiden name if widow line was blank)
80 Henry St
20 (age next birthday)
born: Russ-Poland
Father: Isaac Yishai
Mother: Bluma Josephs (?)
1st marriage

Witnesses: H. Goldstain (?)
Harris Wolff

Officiant: David Wolff, Minister

I was a bit surprised that her surname was written as Wasserzug. I am not sure if her father's last name was Yishai, or they just wrote his full given name without giving his surname.
Since the bride's mother's surname was given as what looked to be Josephs, and the groom's mother's name also appeared to be Josephs, possibly they were related through their mothers....

Jennie Hershkowitz nee Kadetsky daughter of Abraham Kadetsky and Chaya Schwartz

Every once in a while I come across a new Kadetsky. While looking for new info on Abraham Joseph and Adeline Kadetsky I came across Jennie Herschkowitz nee Kadetsky. According to her Manhattan death certificate her parents were Abraham Kadetsky and Chaya Schwartz. She was born approximately 1865 in Poland and died April 28, 1932 in Manhattan. She was married to Philip Herschkowitz born in 1864. They had the following children; Lina b.1885, Sarah b. 1887, Yettie b. 1890, Saul b. 1893, Frida b. 1896, George (Gershon)b. 1897 and Louis (b. 1902- d. 1904). Lina married Benjamin Wohhtader. Sarah married Joe Davis and had a son Arthur b. 1906.

Has anyone heard of the Herschkowitz, Wohhtader or Davis?

Simon Waters; names changes, birthday irregularities, patronymic surnames and changing documentation of parents names.

Simon Waters is Adeline Kadetsky's son from her first marriage to Joseph Wasserzug. Adeline's marriage 12/7/1884 certificate to Joseph Wasserzug in Manhattan, NY indicates that her parents' names were Isaac Yishai and Bluma Jacobs. This is the earliest record of her parents and therefore is likely to most the accurate as opposed to her death certificate and gravestone which she did not supply the information for. On her marriage registration to Israel Hymoff, her parents are listed as lists parents name as Simon Zettock and Rosie Jacoboff. Her death certificate, 12/25/1918 lists her parents as Isaac Kadetsky and Bloomie Jackson. Abraham Joseph Kadetsky and Adeline Hymoff's gravestones record their father's names as Yitzchak Yehoshua on Adeline's and Yitzchak Hoshaya on Abraham's. In my family there are several ealry generations with the name Shaya Aziel. There is no name in judaism of Aziel. Aziel is likely to be a bastardization of Isaac.

Simon Waters lists his parents as Adeline Kadetsky and Joseph Wassercuj on his Brazil registration cards:

On his passport application, he explains his name change and the variance of his birthday from records in an affidavit.
